Get ready for glasses galore! Sunnies with Soph hones in on the modern culture of sunglasses and trends in eyewear. As a young woman who actively keeps up on fashion trends and follows different fashion platforms on social media, the evolution of eyewear in fashion is so apparent, and it is so fun to delve into why things have changed to become the way they are today. There is an abundance of visual examples as to how the trends of eyewear have changed. In haute couture to street wear, it is amazing to analyze how fashion is different among different types of audiences or environments in terms of eyewear. How each company has a signature aesthetic to their glasses, how celebrities partner up to design their own lines, and everything in between. Frames, styles, colors, prints, and all the different combinations that glasses could be “in”are celebrated and further explained. For my fashion savvy readers, the logistics regarding the business of the glasses lines, how they are promoted, and why partners choose the companies they do. Media has also influenced the distribution of glasses and on sites such as Instagram, algorithms and advertisements flood the feed with trendy names and tag lines. In The State of Copyright Activism by Siva Vaidhyanathan, “Shrinking the information and cultural commons starves the public sphere of elements of discourse, the raw material for decision–making, creativity, and humor” and this is why we blog. Blogging is a celebration of fashion, and any elements of censorship disturbs our celebration and discussion of human art .Sunglasses now have endless options and functions, like polarization and even through glasses that help with sight, there is fashion incorporated into the lines. Not only are women’s trends more different than ever, men’s sunglasses have changed over time dramatically as well and how unisex has made its way around lines. Geographically, styles vary which aligns with changing aesthetics, and I want to specify the cultural reasoning behind that! Overall, my intended audience is people who share an interest in the ever changing fashion world as well as inform people who have a newfound interest in this specific realm of fashion. Fashion is art that we live in!

Sunnies with Soph Takeaways

Sunnies with Soph has been a wake up call, especially to write about fashion in a time where the world is essentially changing in front of our eyes. The biggest takeaways as a blogger I’ve gotten from this project is to always be transparent and discuss the matters at hand, no matter how uncomfortable or serious things get. It is always important to be real and human with your audience, talk to them as if they are your friends to keep them engaged. I’ve also learned that posting multimedia and incorporating audio allows the audience to see the different facets of the creator’s personality. Certain points get through to an audience more effectively through different channels. To keep an audience engaged, creatively, it is also important to showcase your passion and credibility about the things you are discussing. In terms of layout, I have learned that it is easy to navigate a simply formatted page. Sometimes less is more, especially when designing a site so people can navigate it. We live in an era of here and now, people do not want the hassle of trying to figure out a site, because it will ultimately end in less views or audience interactions. Above all, it is important to keep material raw and human, and through this I’ve learned that there are fashion brands who take initiative to put humanity first over business. It is important to bring the positive sides of a dark scenario out and to inspire listeners to continue being human. It is all about bringing people together, and especially now with philanthropy being a huge part of the material I produced, it is important to highlight it. I also learned how to use audacity which gave me more range in my production skills as well as becoming familiarized with new technologies.

Philanthropy is stylish, too.

Episode one is kicking off! It is hard to discuss anything other than what is going on in the world right now, and in light of feeling so in touch with humanity, it is important to remind everyone how connected we are. Even though we may feel super disconnected. The first episode is dedicated to fashion companies staying grounded and lending a helping hand, even in tough times. Yes, we discuss the fun stuff, but the philanthropies and charities involved are so prominent and deserve recognition. These companies are admirable and strong for their work and ability to not only see the light, but be the light.

Memes Galore

Meme via https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/deal-with-it
Meme via https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/clout

These memes as seen above relate to my target audience because they all involve glasses, and have fun and quirky ways about them. All of my memes include a playful trend or styling of glasses. There is a digital aspect to each of them that suggests a more futuristic take on sunglasses. According to Davidson, “A single, theoretical ideal dictates characteristics down to individual manifestations” (133). These ideals apply to my memes because they forecast a digital age of eyewear, even some styles lately have been reflected as futuristic looking. The trends are manifested by the memes. My identified memes’ behaviors come from Knowyourmeme.com in the sunglasses section, the “Deal With It” meme originates from something awful and it is spread through gifs on text and social media. The clout glasses originate from the ability to impact a community or group of people. It is spread through physical wear but does in fact have a futuristic feel to it. The meme that is the most digital originates from CSI Miami, and it is purely made out of figures on a computer. The manifestation of these memes is a futuristic and bigger, more reflective, cutting edge version of eyewear. The new and emerging form of eyewear appeals to the fashionistas because it is well paired with up and coming streetwear, and these are the new trends that we must prepare for, influenced by technology.

Eyes on the Prize: Philanthropy Style

DIFF Eyewear x Eyes on Africa PSA

DIFF Eyewear has chosen to set their sights high, as they partake in a partnership with the program Eyes on Africa. It is all about bringing humanity together, and in such a consumerist world, DIFF Eyewear is privileged enough to have the funds to devote their time and donate goods to Eyes on Africa. There are promoted ways for anyone to get involved through the reach DIFF has, and since they are on such a high platform with such a renowned name, it is evident that they are making their mark on Africa. The sunglasses Americans purchase become funds to give to Africans who are in dire need of glasses for proper vision, not just accessorizing. Through providing proper resources, this allows the children in schools and people who are trying to gain knowledge and better themselves a real chance. Without seeing properly it is difficult to do daily tasks, let alone retain new information. Seeing properly also boosts morale, people become excited and happy to put in the energy and work needed to complete tasks because they are given the tools to unlock their own potential. DIFF is donating their efforts to a purpose bigger than any retail effort, it is about being human and helping each other where we can. Eyes on Africa could not say enough about how DIFF are true partners, they do not just drop off glasses and go, they help with any and every process necessary to help these people in need. It is not just a marketing effort to DIFF, they wholeheartedly give their all to this cause, and it is refreshing to see that on both ends of the partnership there is respect, loyalty, and love to one another. There is something to be said about using fashion to brighten someone’s day, but oftentimes we forget that some people are struggling without even the bare necessities. DIFF did not forget. They responded.

An Adventure Through Quay’s Site

The Screencast Tutorial Video is intended to give fashion lovers the inside scoop to the new website features of Quay Australia. The company, founded in Australia, is one of the companies that are spearheading the sunglasses trends for the current trendsetting generation. Quay’s flare of drama in their designs are what reel the consumers in , and their advanced technology heightens the online shopping experience. My only source that I used from the video other than myself is https://www.quayaustralia.com/ to exhibit how their website operates! I expect people to find my site by reading my blog and seeing the post, as well as searching “Sunnies with Soph” and being lead to the YouTube video through a Google search! It is a brand and site that should attract the same crowd as my blog readers and anybody who is interested in the fashion world. People find tutorial videos on YouTube worth watching because technology is fast and convenient. In Wolf’s article DIY Videos on YouTube, a source states “YouTube’s great because you can watch stuff actually being done. I’ve got a couple of home improvement books, but I’ve never even cracked them open because it’s so much easier to just search for what I want electronically” (6). People want to be shown what they can do with personality incorporated. This is why Screencast is such an effective tool to utilize when speaking to an audience. People evaluate videos through how easy the producer makes the tutorial and how much flare is added to it! For people who are aspiring to work in the fashion industry or have specified interest in eyewear, the video, Quay’s site, and Sunnies with Soph are here to help!

Header

My header image of choice is a frame of sunglasses, and inside of the sunglasses are another pair of sunglasses, giving a lens effect. Sunglasses are on for some of life’s most exciting, joyous and blissful moments, and the second pair of sunglasses on the inside exemplify the pure life that we see through the lenses. My viewers will be able to grasp the topic from the start without even taking a glance at any words. People can see that my blog has to do with sunglasses trends and it is quite literally repeated in the header. My blog is geared toward fashion lovers and people who have an interest in trends. Sunglasses trends change based off of time period, age, demographic, and of course preference. My header explicitly states what my blog is about and it should draw people to the rest of the entirety of the blog.

My source images were found from google and flickr. I am most definitely able to reuse the image I chose from google for the heaer because under our settings I was able to manipulate the search to offer non commercial reuse with modification. In terms of flickr, I chose an image that was Attribution 2.0 Generic (CC BY 2.0).

In his article “Inside Photoshop”, Manovich hones in on editing and techniques. We are able to choose the width and height of a frame and programs cater to the needs of our layouts. When I created my header, I truly utilized the program’s functions to be able to create a convenient space for me. I needed to create a layer affect with the glasses, and this feature allowed me to do so. When it finally came together, I was pleased with the ability to make two separate pictures come together.

Davidson’s single layered bitmaps were not the same as the two images offered in the header I created. It was not done in one layer rather than two.The header created with the sunglasses allows for two layers to play a part in the whole picture. My photos are combined at a certain point but are still transparent, so the viewer can see they are separate. Technically, the header itself is one layer, but in my own work two are very clear due to translucence.
